DGA users group

A more appropriate forum for sharing ideas may be a google group http://groups.google.com/. I could carry content over. Let me know if you have interest. If we can get ten users I would say that will be useful. Until then....

For now this works. Glad someone set it up. There are probably some things that would work better in a wiki, but that can wait a bit (IMHO).

Good morning. How's your weather? We're either in a mild blizzard or spring thaw - and that's just this morning! By tea-time we should be in t-shirts and sandals!

I wish....

Hello,

I ran across this website for DBA users. We are considering purchase of the DBA software and I wanted to get a feel for what existing users think of it.

Our company manufacturers an oil waste separator that is mostly a standard product, but we also do some custom manufacturing.

I would be very interested in an input positive of negative about the software. I have listened to the sales pitches and played with the demo quite a bit and I find some things a little confusing. I have many years experience working with software packages.

Does anyone know how many companies are using DBA?

Any information you could give me good or bad would be appreciated.

Oldchundy,

I don't know how many companies use DBA. I suggest pulling a credit report on them as part of your review. I did so some years ago. Some of the consultants here and elsewhere have given me the impression there are a fair number of users.

It is easy to create a job from a standard BOM and make changes to the BOM within the job. Custom products can also be created from standard BOM's, and then a job created for the custom product, which creates a better record for you and the customer.

There are limitations. Only one gl account for inventory (you can breakout codes for inventory types on an inventory report but not assign GL accounts to capture the flows). Can't switch an item between type purchase or manufacture or have a bom for a P type part (though you can manually do a po for a part of type M). No default user profiles, sales tax setups, etc. Lack of an audit trail on things like BOM changes (who changed what and when). I ran into some anomalies importing data, some of which may have been fixed since. They make changes autocratically that sometimes conflict with our use of the use of the software. There are some restrictions to how users access information that seems arbitrary. Support sometimes answers straw man questions instead of what was asked or answers narrowly missing the point of the support request. Default financial reports lack comparisons to budget or prior periods, so need to set that up outside the system in Excel or a reporting tool using one of the data export methods. Some printing problems on larger batches of invoices or checks, though a recent update helped (we had a problem just yesterday on checks though).

Overall, its working for us.

Your standard product with standard parts will probably be ok. Custom is doable, as long as you do it their way.
BoM is quite strong. Purchasing workflow, especially for non-stock items (which they don't believe in at all), is not. Workflow for custom jobs is not. Count on using Crystal or something else (I use Access) for your reporting, since the internals leave a lot to be desired.
I'll echo what George said about service - sometimes it's good, sometimes completely off base. Too many of their "improvements" are based on their own "philosophy" and have nothing to do with getting a job out the door efficiently. They seem to think we get paid to use their software and the actual product is irrelevant.
Test it well.

We are considering migrating from DBA Classic to DBA next Gen. Is there anyone out there that has done this before that can share some insight with us?

We are considering using the DBA software and I would like to know the BOM input difficulty. I am not that experienced with MRP systems, and any advise would be appreciated. We are an electronics contract manufacturing company and all of our prodcuts are custom. If possible I would like to know what the problems were with the purchasing workflow mentioned below.

->QA, BOM input is OK, I think, not so complicated. I have over 50 parent BOMs and each bom his over 40 items. It does quite some time to input all this, using the bom import does help.

Hello DBa end users. We have been on DBA NG Mfg for about 2 years and are desperatly looking for a user group. Anyone still using DBA NG Manu that is interested in contacting me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I'm in for a users group. We have been using it for a couple of years with fair success. Though, we don't work it very hard yet. The accounting side appears to be pretty good, the income statement layout is terrible for manufacturing.

I am trying to find some actual users of DBA NG and i came across this blog. I am going to be implementing the software at small custom circuit board manufacture and I would like to hear what some actual users have to say about the software package as far as pros and cons. Any responses would be appreciated.

I hope this user group is still active? I am looking at manufacturing software for our products. We're in microbiology manufacturing but essentially we're a culture media 'kitchen' with recipies. I would like to know if any of the users would think it good enough program. I have looked at a bunch of ERP software but they look huge and cumbersome. I don't think we need anything extreme but we are so past the spreadsheet, manual scheduling and weekly stock counts of both raw material and finished goods. We have about 2000 finished products as well as that many raw materials. Any advice of feedback would be great!
Cheers,
Dave

Dave, I'm also in the same situation as you. We are in biotech, "manufacturing" tissue and cells, with 1000 products. I'm trying to find out if Quickbooks premier could do the job, but apparently it's not. I'm curious to know whether you've been able to find a reasonable option?

I am in Vancouver BC and would like to discuss DBA software with someone that is using it in Vancouver.

Contact me at noymsayn@gmail.com

Thanks

We are interested in using this product as well, but can't believe that there is no official forum where users can bounce ideas from one another. My email is calvis at gmail dot com.

I am interested in using the product in nutritional product manufacturing. Would like to use it in conjunction with quick books.

Hello DBA users,
I weould like to see this group take on more activity. I am willing to be a regualar participant. I am the manufacturing accounting for ALLRed & Associates, Inc.( also known as www.DragonPlate.com) We are version 391.50 of DBA next generation. We need to convert to Version 393 and look forward to feed back. We did not move forward with Version 392 as it interfered too much with our bill of Materials and revs, so we opted to stay with 391.50 being stable for our company. Anyone on version 393 and looking to offer some advise? I be willing to share what we know. You can contact me directlyat sbrennan@allredcorp.com. We are located just west of Syracuse, NY

There exists a Google Groups DBA Manufacturing users group, not much activity unfortunately.
The name is "dba-manufacturing-next-gen" or you can just use the link: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/dba-manufacturing-next-gen

Okay DBA NG Users, I need your help!
The company I work for is in desperate need of incorporating a barcode system. However, the DBA customer support says that DBA does not support barcodes. I DID find that you can IMPORT a .csv file and supposedly update stock items. But I have tried several times to do a mock file and there was no success.

My idea is to get a barcode system that creates a spreadsheet of inventory and then import that spreadsheet to update existing stock items.

If y'all have any advise/expertise/experience with this please let me know! DBA Customer Service is pretty useless in helping with any issues Ive had.

Thank you in advance!
